Example of how to work with a daily budget
Many companies work with a daily sales target/budget that is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the section, local, and district manager to have as a reference when forecasting and scheduling their employees both short and long-term.
The actual sales budget number often comes from systems outside of Quinyx and the HR systems and are combinations of historical data, planned marketing campaigns, and current trend for individual units combined with the overall trend within that vertical or area.
It is not unusual that the data comes from top-down, meaning that the granularity of the budget is on daily level at best, within many verticals. It might even be on a weekly or monthly level as well, but this article will show you how that still can be used as a good guideline for managers responsible for scheduling employees within the company.
How do I get the budget data in?
To get the data into Quinyx, REST APIs will be used. This removes the error-prone way of manually entering data coming from another system into Quinyx. Sending the data through the APIs that are secured by Oauth2 makes this an easy operation to do every year, or more often if the budget is created quarterly or biannually.

How is the budget data visualized in Quinyx?
When in the schedule view and statistics is shown and configured, the Budget data will show on a:
- Daily level (the sum on the left is interesting, not the hourly figures)
- Weekly level and above the data will be comparable to the other summed values
How do I work with an actual prediction that my local managers can edit?
One option to be able to have the local managers to have "their own" prediction based on their own units, historical sales, and comparable days is to create a forecast configuration for them that is based on last year same day values. Using the same comparable day (day not date) is proven to be quite useful as a starting point together with the budget value already uploaded into the system.
In this example from the same unit, last year's hourly sales (same comparable weekday) was as follows on
- Daily level
- Weekly level
This configuration is in the example named Last year same day but can be labeled according to the organization's need. This configuration is also editable directly from statistics if the user has that access rights permission.
When we then visualize the budget, it becomes very easy for the manager to compare their forecast configuration (and possible edits that have been done) and also having the original budget as a context.
How can I compare budget and/or forecast to the actual sales?
This is the easy part, just choose to also show actuals in statistics for the variable (in this example sales-15)
